Working Title: LOVE
IS DEAD: A ZOMBIE ANTHOLOGY
Publisher: Living Dead Press
Release Date: February 2010
What we want:
What better gift to give the zombie lover in your life on
Valentines Day than an assorted collection of zombie stories
centered around Valentines Day, love and romance! It’s
better than a box of chocolates. After all, you never know
what you’ll
get with a book of zombies. Some of them will be rotten, some
of them will be freshly dead... no matter what, you'll love
them and they'd love to take a bite out of you.
We’re looking for a collection of Original stories about
standard zombies with LOVE as the focal point in some way.
The story shouldn't be printed anywhere before but depending
on where and when reprints will be considered, too. Info on
the history of story should be submitted with story, please.
Your story only needs two things to qualify:
- a unique story about the walking dead and LOVE
or Romance as this antho is for Valentine's Day
- needs to be basically finished and edited other than small,
copy-editing done by us.
Stories are to range from 3,500 to whatever you want, give
or take both ways. The story can be up to 15,000 easy, even
more depending on a case by case.
Nothing under 3,000 will be considered because they are too
short. We want real stories, not flash fiction.
And we take almost all stories submitted to us provided the
quality is there and we will work with you if the story has
potential. We will go the exta mile to get your story in print,
whether that's extra editing by you with suggestions by us
or the editor helping the story with your permission and you
signing off on the finished draft.
Location of author:
Anywhere in the world.
What rights do we want?
First print and electronic rights to your story and exclusive
rights for 1-year after publication. After that you can resell
it. But we do have the right to use the story for as long as
there is demand for the book.
What we don’t want:
- No repetitive coarse language. (All swears are fine but in
normal moderation.)
- No poetry
- No Porn. (Sexy scenes are fine if tasteful and relevant to
the story.)
Multiple submissions are allowed, but only up to two at any
one time. Plus one story per writer is usually enough.
What we’re making:
Love is Dead: A Zombie Anthology will
be published as a trade paperback and perhaps as an e-book.
What you get:
Ah, here's the part most author's go to immediately.
Well, folks, we're doing this anthology for the LOVE of it,
(Get it?) This isn't a money making venture but the fun of
making literature, so all you get is one copy of the book
in your greedy little hands shortly after publication.
If this doesn't work for you, then please don't submit. But
frankly, guys, we're looking for people who write for the LOVE
of it (Get it?) and could care less about a few bucks, but
just want to see their work in print.
What to send:
Please add a phone number to all submissions if you live
in the United States.
If possible, please try to follow the formatting rules below,
but if you can't we will deal with it. We're flexible.
Just please, no tabs and no double spaced, please!!! single
spaced befroe you send it.
Please send your story in as instructed below or as close as
you can get it. We don't follow the rules of other companies,
here folks, and that's why we're here in the first place.
Courier, arial or baskerville, 12pt, it really doesn't matter
because the first thing we do before reading your story is
change to Georgia 12 point,as that's is what we use in final
books, then we read and edit the work at the same time in hopes
we're going to take it.
Make sure any italicized words are underlined. Also include
your name and contact information, "phone number",
on the first page as well as your name in the upper right corner
of subsequent pages. Don’t forget to also number your
pages.
We don't want double spaced, we want to see the story how
it would look in a book so as we read it we can get the full
feeling of the story.
Only double space if it is an actual paragraph break is in
the story or use stars *** or #### to break up a scene.
We also would rather not see the story indented. Keep it flush
to the left with no double spaces. If we take your story, its
easier to format into the book if it's like we just described.
When we get them tabbed, it all has to be taken away again,
aggravating to say the least.
If you don't underline what you want italicized then don't
complain if its not like that in the book.
As far as these rules go, don't go crazy. This is what we
prefer so just do your best.
And we prefer Microsoft word, not rtf. We hate RTF. But if
that's all you have it's okay.
Where to send it:
Send all submissions via email to livingdeadpress@yahoo.com
Please also use the same address for any questions not addressed
here.
When to send it by:
Reading period starts right away and will end in early Jan
2010. But if we fill up (and we usually do) then it gets closed
early.
You will be notified when your story is accepted, possibly
sooner. You may hear from us in as little as 48 hours. It happens.
Hope to hear from you :)
